Exploring opportunities for climate smart investments from the private sector

Private sector mapping consultation 17Mar 2016

Phnom Penh 17th March 2016,

50 representatives of the private sector, Government ministries, NGOs and development partners participated in consultations on opportunities to increase private investment in the climate change response.

H.E. Tin Ponlok, Secretary General of the National Council for Sustainable Development (NCSD), indicated that “private sector funds, globally, represented 60% of total climate change finance in 2014”. While public funds, and in particular support from developed countries are extremely important for Cambodia as a developing and climate vulnerable country, rapid economic growth also offers opportunities to increase the flow of private investments in climate-smart solutions. These investments do not only help address climate change impacts on the economy, they also deliver economic, social and environmental benefits and contribute to sustainable growth in Cambodia.

Climate change is mainstreamed into investment programme and budget submission in water resources and meteorology sector for 2017

10th CCCA’s Programme Support Board Meeting

PSB10th10 Feb 2016The Program Support Board (PSB) of the Cambodia Climate Change Alliance (CCCA) conducted its 10th meeting, this afternoon 10th February 2016 at Ministry of Environment (MoE) building, under the chairmanship of H.E. Dr. Yin Kimsean, MoE’s Secretary of State as well as representative of H.E. Say Samal, Minister of Environment and Chairperson of the CCCA’s PSB. The meeting was also attended by PSB members from the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology; Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries; Ministry of Economy and Finance; and representatives from the CCCA’s donors including the European Union, Sweden and UNDP, as well as representatives of selected stakeholders.

The focus areas of the grant cover adaptation, greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation/inventory, adaptation/mitigation with an individual amount between USD 50,000 and USD 100,000.
