Reducing Vulnerability of Rural Cambodians

SRL projectOne of the key requirements to improve livelihoods resilience to climate change in the long-run is to improve the management and use of locally available water resources for agriculture. The project “Reducing the Vulnerability of Cambodian Rural Livelihoods through Enhanced Sub-National Climate Change Planning and Execution of Priority Actions”, also known as the SRL project, is doing just that, targeting especially land-poor, landless and/or women-headed households.

Stakeholder Consultation on National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Financing Framework

NAP strategy workshopGIZ, in cooperation with and financed by USAID, is implementing the Climate Finance Readiness Programme (CF Ready), providing technical support to the Department of Climate Change, General Secretariat of National Council for Sustainable Development, to implement the National Adaptation Plan (NAP). To this effect, a NAP financing framework is an important outcome of the CF Ready Programme and aims at accelerating the readiness of climate finance in Cambodia.

IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report Underway

IPCC meetingDuring the first week of May, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)​ member countries discuss the focus of the next IPCC’s Assessment Report. The outline of the report (including the coverage of the three Working Group contributions: physical science; impacts, adaptation and vulnerability; and mitigation) will be approved next October, but AR6 will only be completed 5 years from now, in the first half of 2022.

Learning Event on Sharing Experiences on the Implementation of Priority Climate Change Actions and Scaling-Up of Successful Approaches

Learning Event Siem Reap 7 Jun 2017 1Siem Reap – 7 to 8 June 2017, Department of Climate Change (DCC), General Secretariat of the National Council for Sustainable Development (NCSD), with financial support of the Cambodia Climate Change Alliance (CCCA), organized a “Learning Event on Sharing Experiences on the Implementation of Priority Climate Change Actions and Scaling-Up of Successful Approaches” at Siem Reap Province with participation from 22 CCCA-funded projects, climate change focal points from all concerned ministries, and key other climate change projects to take stock of the progress made in the implementation of the CCCA grants, and discuss strategies to ensure these grants contribute the scaling-up of the climate change response in Cambodia.

Youths in Svay Rieng province are trained on Climate Change

Youth Training SVR 12 May 2017Svay Rieng, 12 May 2017​–Department of Climate Change, General Secretariat of the National Council for Sustainable Development (NCSD), with support from Cambodia Climate Change Alliance (CCCA) organized a Training Workshop on Climate Change for Youths with participation over 130 youths, including 61 women to build capacity on the climate change terminology, cause and effect, impact, vulnerability at national and international levels in responding to climate change, and adaptation and mitigation options. The event is presided over by H.E. Tin Ponlok, NCSD’s Secretary General and H.E. Sum Socheath, Deputy provincial governor of Svay Rieng.
